vitamins & minerals April 7, 2008

I’ve been taking my vitamins and minerals lately and I believe my skin is the better for it. OK, not exactly “taking” them… more like “slathering” them … on my face.

I’ve been using Emergin’ C serum on my face once a day, which I believe is helping but will report more on this at a later date. However, having a more immediate impact is the mineral-based make up I’ve been using. Mineral-based make up is all the rage right now, and for good reason. I’m using the Laura Mercier mineral foundation powder which goes on like a powder yet has the coverage and SPF of its liquid-based cousin. I’m also using the eyeshadow. The good news about these powders is that they are great for us over-thirty girls since they have reflecting pigments and help skin look radiant. Whereas many powders have a nasty way of settling into creases and crevices, these don’t. And they will keep you looking fresh.

Highly recommended. ones to try: Bare Escentuals or Laura Mercier

Benefit: creaseless cream eyeshadow creates converts June 5, 2007

I never took Benefit seriously. The 1950’s-era graphics, the catchy slogans… it all seemed so pathetically cute – more about image than quality. But i have since changed my mind.

I heard word that their creaseless cream eyeshadow lived up to its name; and being a woman who hasn’t worn cream eyeshadow (especially shimmery ones) since turning 30, I was intrigued. After all, it is that very creasey-ness of the shadow that can turn a respectably-aged eyelid into something resembling crepe paper or the kneecap of an elephant.

But I’m a convert now. The birthday-suit colour makes an excellent base shade, or when applied alone, gives a quick natural shimmer — great for summer when you don’t want to wear lots of shadow.

If you like that summer – glow- shimmer look, this is your product.

in search of the perfect mascara November 27, 2006

All I want is a mascara that goes on smooth, makes my lashes look great and doesn’t clump. Does any of that sound beyond the limits of what a mascara is supposed to do?

My favourite mascara is “false eyelashes” from Prescriptives but that is not available in Hong Kong. So the search went on. I tried Bobbi Brown’s “lash glamour” in the silver tube, but that brush made nothing but clumps. Finally I bought Shu Uemura’s new Fibre Xtension which is fabulous. Big bushy brush gives lots of volume and coverage.

Highly recommended.
